Research & Presentations

Current Research

The staff at the Training Institute – Southwest Behavioral & Health Services is currently involved in multiple ongoing research projects. Several of these include:

  • A study of the effectiveness of Client Directed Outcome Informed work with children and their caretakers in a school-based setting. SB&H is one of two sites (the other in Maine) that are utilizing a random controlled trial method of tracking the outcomes of CDOI interventions and behavioral health services in the public school system.
  • TI-SB&H staff are also involved in a first-ever random controlled/matched study of the effectiveness of Client Directed Outcome Informed service approach with SMI residential and Semi-Independent Living consumers. The study is matching like program services and tracking not only outcomes but monthly health-related and behavioral incidents.

Several doctoral studies are underway:

  • Looking at the effectiveness of CDOI approach with the consumers in a locked (level 1) crisis stabilization unit.
  • The effectiveness of CDOI with traditional outpatient services provided to children and their families.
  • The effectiveness of the Outcome Rating Scale with telephone administration on follow-through with initial outpatient appointments.
