Education & Training

Within our SB&H Training Institute, we have a multitude of partnerships and agreements, both within and outside of the SB&H organization.

The SB&H Training Institute's Psychology Internship Program is a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) and is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).  Future Intern positions and Post-Doctoral Residency's are planned as the Center develops.

SACE is uniquely positioned within our community for training and various activities organized to meet the needs of a variety of stakeholders in the public behavioral health system and efforts to match the recommendations of the Arizona Department of Health Services, Division of Behavioral Health Services’ Higher Education Partnership.

The Training Institute works in collaboration with both Midwestern University and Argosy University’s APA-approved clinical psychology programs. We host a variety of APA and NBCC continuing education opportunities for local behavioral health professionals.

SACE has expertise handling the management of ASD with a multi and trans-disciplinary approach building on the child’s strengths with overarching treatment goals to maximize functioning, move the child toward independence, and improve the quality of life. As a chronic condition, ASD requires a comprehensive treatment approach, individuals with ASD have varying degrees of impairment in social and behavioral function.

Management is individualized according to the child’s age and specific needs. Individualized goals address the core deficits of ASD and seek to improve social functioning and play skills, improve communication skills, adaptive skills, decrease nonfunctional or negative behaviors, and promote academic functioning and cognition. SACE ensures services are planned and delivered in accordance with practice protocols.

SACE implements a specialized approach concentrating on developmental milestones and functional skills development with particular attention to providing consistency and stability across systems through advanced coordination of care.

Research & Training

We aim to extend our impact in the Phoenix-Metro area as it is emerging into a nationally recognized medical science center. This is transforming our state into one of the top areas in the country for quality clinical service, excellent training, and education with innovative research.

Over the next decade, Southwest Behavioral & Health Services will forge partnerships and cooperation in developing various training programs. These program include the areas of neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology, and integrated health care across the lifespan. This collaboration is accomplished by developing complementary and specialized roles which will optimize the expertise and unique strengths of each participating organization.

Education is at the heart of what we do every day. We provide rotations for medical students, residents, nursing students, doctoral psychology interns, social workers, psychiatry, occupational, speech, and physical therapists.

Delivering care in a comprehensive, patient-centered, coordinated, and cost-effective manner that meets the needs of patients, families, and the community is our philosophy. This approach, in our view, will allow us to stretch the traditional boundaries of service delivery in both urban and rural areas.

Our vision at SACE is to extend our impact in a coordinated effort with other organizations in advancing science, clinical innovation, excellence in education, community engagement, and commitment to the individuals that we are privileged of serving.
