Southwest Autism Center Of Excellence Seeks Donations For 5-Year Anniversary Celebration

Southwest Autism Center of Excellence (SACE) is celebrating its 5-year anniversary with a Fall Festival. SACE is a program of Southwest Behavioral & Health Services (SB&H), a non-profit organization. SACE is asking the community for monetary donations, prizes and silent auction items where proceeds will benefit SACE programming and services. Donations can be dropped off by Oct. 15 at the SACE Osborn location at 3329 E. Osborn Phoenix, AZ 85013.

Hometown Heroes: Payson Homeless and Veterans Homeless Initiative

Every night from 4 to 6:30 p.m. the Payson Homeless and Veterans Homeless Initiative offers a hot dinner, clothing, and a shower. In cold weather or during a natural disaster, the center has sleeping accommodations too. Imagine living on the street and in the forest in the snow and cold. The Warming Center exists to help anyone in crisis. Christine Krauss, who is part of the crisis team out of SB&H, was one of the partners involved in the initial planning and creation of the center.

BCPD Readies to BACCUP

As a new nationwide hotline for mental health crises becomes available, the Bullhead City Police Department is preparing to debut its own crisis intervention program. Dubbed BACCUP — short for Bullhead Area Community Crisis Unification Program — the intervention program aims to assist officers responding to mental health emergencies. The team could refer subjects to facilities such as Southwest Behavioral & Health Services (or take them there if the person in question is already in treatment), or take them to the hospital.

Celebrating Sobriety with Hope Lives, a Nonprofit Peer Support Agency in Flagstaff

Hope Lives, a nonprofit organization, opened in northern Arizona in 2014, and it has helped hundreds of people since then with serious mental illness (SMI) diagnoses, substance abuse disorders, and criminal histories to find support and resources to maintain their overall wellness. In doing so, the organization has partnered with the local superior and municipal courts, and works closely with the mental health court. All of the program members at Hope Lives have been referred from behavioral health homes, including Southwest Behavioral and Health Services, The Guidance Center and the Northern Arizona Center for Addiction (NACA).

ASU's Legacy Award Posthumously Recognizes Dr. Bob Bohanske

For more than 20 years, Arizona State University has recognized top contributors to Arizona's behavioral health community. At the 23rd Annual Summer Institute Behavioral Health Awards Gala held last month in Flagstaff, Arizona, the School of Social Work posthumously honored Dr. Bob Bohanske with its Legacy Award, in recognition of his lifelong career as a behavioral health leader.
