Individual/Family Counseling

Individual/Family Counseling Services - Southwest Autism Center of Excellence (SACE) offers individual and family counseling to children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual/developmental disabilities, as well as their families. Evidence-based interventions are carried out by trained therapists using a flexible, person-centered approach, with an overarching goal of maximizing functioning, increasing independence, and improving quality of life for children and their families. Our therapeutic services help address accepting a new ASD diagnosis, managing sensory challenges, promoting self-expression and positive communication, managing risky behaviors like self-harm, risk to others, and elopement, offering education to families on best ways to support the member, and promoting self-care in caregivers. We also serve members with general mental health (GMH) and serious emotional disturbance (SED) concerns, with an emphasis on creating a safe and comfortable environment for members and families to share their needs and receive the support they need.

Our therapists will ask about your goals for treatment, develop an individualized treatment plan that takes into consideration your unique cultural background and preferences, and help identify and provide referrals to any additional services that may help meet your needs. SACE therapists’ function as part of interdisciplinary teams and coordinate care with internal and external service providers, attend team meetings, and advocate for our members when needed.

To receive SACE therapeutic services, the family/member will need to complete an intake with one of our therapists at our Metro or Mesa locations. For more information about our therapeutic services please call 602-388-1700, option 2 for our Metro location and option 3 for our Mesa location.
