Veterans Treatment Court Celebrates Its First Graduates

A Veterans Court is a problem-solving court with the objective of serving military veterans struggling with addiction, serious mental illness and/or recurring disorders through a coordinated response of the court, prosecuting and defense counsel, county attorney, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and local mental health organizations, including Southwest Behavioral & Health Services.

There were only 10 beds in Mohave County a little more than a year ago to help people with addiction and mental health crises. The number is now 26 as SB&H has an access point for those in crisis that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week at its Kingman Observation Unit at 1301 W. Beale St.

The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures, including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployments, caring for families and granting leaves of absence, if needed.
