Are you keeping your kids safe on the Internet? by Abbie Fink

When it comes communicating online, kids see things very differently than their parents. Having e-mail almost since birth, kids feel pretty comfortable sharing their personal information online.  But that sense of comfort may make parents a little nervous, and rightfully so.  Parents think restricting online use is a great way to keep kids safe but the kids view it as just another way mom and dad are keeping them from their friends and having a good time.

Flawed logic behind push for drug legalization

The Associated Press article headlined "Major panel: Drug war failed" (The Republic, June 2, Page A5) presented a very skewed view of the so-called war on drugs in our country.

Our federal, state and local governments must continue to explore ways to curb illicit drug use in our communities, but legalizing marijuana and other controlled substances will never be the answer.

Motherhood is not predictable.  No matter how much I planned, organized (er, obsessed)  and prayed, this first year of being a mom has made me realize, you just have to take things as they come.  

So far, I’ve been blessed.  My twins, London and Julian, are in great health.  But for a runny nose here and there, some serious teething and two short bouts with colds, this first year has been pretty smooth.

But boy there is a lot to think about as a parent, isn’t there?  And I have those thoughts times two!

3Moms volunteer shares personal story with media

3Moms parent volunteer Cindy Sierzchula participated in the DEA’s Prescription Drug Take-Back Day press conference. Sharing the tragic story of her daughter’s fatal prescription drug overdose, Cindy urged parents to participate in the  DEA’s Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 30th to dispose of any unused, unwanted or expired prescription or over-the-counter medicines.  Cindy’s story touched many members of the media and she had several interviews after the press event.

The Power of 3

When the 3Moms initiative was founded three years ago, it began with just three Valley mothers whose lives and families were impacted by their children’s drug use. Today, the initiative has grown to include several more moms and a few dads. The mission of 3Moms is to create awareness for parents and caregivers about the importance of drug prevention.

National Study Confirms - Teen Drug Trends Moving in Wrong Direction

A new national study released today by The Partnership at Drugfree.org and MetLife Foundation indicates that teen drug and alcohol use is headed in the wrong direction, with marked increases in teen use of marijuana and Ecstasy over the past three years.
